A MUST HAVE FOR ALL OF YOUR LENSES

The Protection Filter protects your lens without degrading image quality and shields your lens from dust, dirt, scratches and other potential damage.

WHY USE A PROTECTION FILTER?

A Protection filter does exactly what it sounds like: is protects the front of your lens. It is often said “you date your camera, but you marry your lenses”. Lenses represent one of the largest investments a person can make! Many photographers and videographers keep a Protection filter on all of their lenses all the time.

A Protection filter can:

  • Prevent an object from damaging your lens's front element.

  • Be a lot less expensive to replace than your lens if an object causes damage.

  • Be easier to clean than your lens, due to special coatings which repel dirt, water, oil, or even dust (this is highly dependent on the type and grade of protection filter you purchase / not all Protection filters use these extra special coatings).

Using a Protection filter

Attach the Protection filter to the front of your camera's lens and leave it in place. If your lens has a bayonet style hood, attach it as well to add further protection and to avoid flare.

How does a Protection filter work?

A Protection filter remains on the front of your lens to protect it from damage. A good Protection filter should be made of polished optical glass and employ multi-coatings to provide excellent light transmission. Its job is to protect your lens without sacrificing image quality.

Protection Filter Nuts and Bolts

  • A Protection filter's job is to protect your lens without degrading image quality. It should pass light clearly to your lens and on to your camera.

  • Some Protection filters use extra special coating formulas which go beyond image quality to add repellency against dirt, water, oil, fingerprints, and even dust.

  • You should still use a lens cap with your protection filter to aid in protection when the lens is not in use and to help keep it clean.
