Even at the ultra-telephoto focal length of 300mm (the full-frame equivalent of 450mm), it glides into focus comfortably from the minimum distance to infinity. Since it directly drives a group of lens elements to focus without using gears, the lens is exceptionally quiet. At the 18mm wide end, the lens attains an MOD of 0.15m (5.9 in) and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2. This lens incorporates TAMRON's proprietary VC mechanism to minimize the effect of camera-shake, which is likely to occur in the telephoto range. Using AI technologies, the lens will choose the compensation characteristic for videography at focal lengths of 70mm or less.
