"So many art forms take months, if not years to learn, but with proper instruction I knew I could teach photographers the skills needed to create breathtaking night-sky time lapses in just a few days." said Risman. Risman started giving talks on time lapse photography in 2012, but quickly realized that photographers would really benefit from in-the-field instruction. Instead of taking notes at a lecture, photographers that attend one of Ron’s workshops get to put what they learn each day into action with on-location shoots every afternoon and evening. During the workshop they are immersed into time lapse photography and are hanging and networking with other photographers that share the same passion for photography. They live and breathe some of the best photography on the planet - each and every day. Artistic photography is about capturing a scene in a way that many haven't seen it before - and time lapse is an ideal genre for that. Time lapse reveals the sky in motion that normally moves to slow for the naked eye to perceive. It reveals beautiful patterns in clouds, traffic, crowds, plant growth, etc. and is one of the best ways to illustrate the passage of time. Rismans workshops are mostly held in the southwest region of the U.S. The Southwest not only offers beautiful weather and incredibly dark skies, it also offers spectacular scenery that helps to inspire photographers at all levels. If you have seen some of their films, then you have likely seen the work of his students. Ron uses workshop films - captured by his students - to illustrate how much you’ll learn in just a few days at one of his workshops. "While it is important to know what the instructor is capable of producing, it is more important to see what you’ll be able to produce after attending my workshop" says Risman. Ron just released their latest workshop film titled "SkyLight," which was captured by 13 of the photographers that attended his October workshops in Southern Utah.
