Olympus has applied its optical expertise to develop the Zuiko Digital 18-36mm equivalent (ED 9-18mm Four Thirds) f4.0-f5.6, a super-wide-angle zoom lens covering a wide focal length range. This compact ultra-wide-angle zoom lens can be used on any of the Olympus E-System digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera bodies, and measures only 3 inches long and weighs a mere 9.88 ounces for greater portability. The Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm f.4.0-f5.6 will be available in the fall of 2008. The estimated street price will be $599.99.

Adobe today has released an update to the Adobe Digital Negative specification (DNG), a publicly available archival format for the raw files generated by digital cameras. This update provides new and expanded specifications that provide the digital imaging industry with increased flexibility and improved workflow for their raw images. A DNG Codec for Windows Vista has also been released on Adobe Labs, allowing photographers utilizing the Windows Vista platform to work with raw files in a more seamless manner.

A Florida beach resort town in Floria, Alys Beach, will host a unique festival on Labor Day weekend. The festival is inviting digital artists from around the world to project their original artwork onto their town's famous white walls. "Our entire town will literally become their blank canvas." Artists are encouraged to submit their original works of digital art for consideration as soon as possible. Entries may include new or existing abstract digital imagery, short films, photography, VJ sets, animations, YouTube videos, Adobe PhotoShop creations or entirely new interactive concepts. All subject matter is eligible for the festival, although a special $1,000 prize will be awarded to the best entry with a "green" or environmental theme.

Eye-Fi, makers of the world's first wireless memory card for digital cameras, today announced the Eye-Fi Explore, a new card designed to make photo sharing richer, easier and more immediate. Unveiled at the Where 2.0 Conference, the Eye-Fi Explore allows users to upload photos from more than 10,000 hotspots while away from home, and automatically tag their photos with information about where the image was captured. The 2GB Eye-Fi Explore includes unlimited Web uploads, unlimited geotagging and one year of hotspot access at Wayport locations.
